Brockton murder victim’s family holds memorial walk


The Enterprise of Brockton, Mass. www.enterprisenews.com By Maureen Boyle ENTERPRISE STAFF WRITER BROCKTON — Silently, Maritza Rodriguez walked the two miles from Green Street to Calvary Cemetery to mark the first year anniversary of her 17-year-old son’s slaying. She walked, she said, hoping for answers. She walked, looking for justice. “There are no words you can say,” Rodriguez said softly in the minutes before stepping off. “There is nothing more I can say.” Her son, Shaian Colon, was fatally wounded Oct. 12, 2006 as he sat inside a minivan on Green Street. Another man wounded in the van is now in wheelchair. A third man in the back of the van was not hit. The men who were with Colon that night told authorities they didn’t know — or didn’t see — who fired the gun. But rumors persist about what happened that night, about who walked up to the van that night and opened fire into the front seat where the teen sat. The teen’s family say someone knows who the killer is. They say they want those who know what happened to come forward, to help authorities arrest the killer, to finally bring justice for Shaian Colon. “It is just a big question,” his aunt, Arleene Santory, said. “Who was it and who is going to say what happened.” Relatives said they will continue to search for those answers. “We’re not going to give up,” said Melissa Rodriguez, his sister-in-law.
