Llego la Banda: Yomo Toro & Zon del Barrio


Aurora & Zon del Barrio kicked off the ’09 holiday season early with this sold out 2 flags concert @ Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture joined by the funky jibaro Yomo Toro and the theatrical dancers from Danza Fiesta. Here ZDB interprets the Fania classic performed by Willie Colon & Hecto LaVoe, “Llego la Banda” written by a Peruvian bass plyer & composer Walter Fuentes: featuring a few solos by our dynamic rhythm section. For this show we had to switch our timbalero, 17 year old Matthew who was dancing w/ Danza Fiesta, with our regular bongocero, the veteran Tito Gonzalez who supervises the youngbloods on percussion. We brought in 14 year old Mario Muñoz to take Tito’s place while Tito took over the timbales. However, Matthew still wanted to play so Tito gave him a break to show his stuff @ the concert.
